Selected definitions from Utah Code Title 68 (Rules of Construction) and cross-cutting provisions.

Person : Means an individual, corporation, partnership, organization, association, trust, governmental agency, or any other legal entity. Utah Code § 68-3-12.5(1)(q).

State : When applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. Utah Code § 68-3-12.5(1)(t).

County : Includes a county, city, or any other local governmental entity. Utah Code § 68-3-12.5.

Shall / May : “Shall” is mandatory; “may” is permissive. Utah Code § 68-3-12(1).

Writing / Written : Includes handwriting, typewriting, printing, electronic transmission, or any other form of recorded communication. Utah Code § 68-3-12.5.

Oath : Includes affirmation; and “sworn” includes “affirmed.” Utah Code § 68-3-12.5.
